DVD Special Edition

Old School

DreamWorks/Universal, color, NR/R, 90 min. plus supplements, DTS, Dolby Digital, widescreen and fullscreen, Street: June 10, $19.95 MAP; First Run: W, Feb. 2003, $74.6 mil.

The requisite extras can all be found on the Old School disc--deleted scenes, outtakes, bloopers, a making-of featurette--but it's the Inside the Actors Studio Spoof that really makes this edition special. Old School co-star Will Farrell portrays the parody-worthy James Lipton in an hilarious 21-minute, DreamWorks-produced send up of the popular TV interview show. Farrell/Lipton, complete with a bald prosthetic and a colossal stack of questions on index cards, engages in a groveling Q&A; with Old School stars Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Will Farrell (captured with some split-screen F/X) and director Todd Phillips, whom Farrell/Lipton describes as "four individuals who have singlehandedly changed the world of film, acting and comedy in one fell swoop--and it is awesome!" It looks like everyone involved is having a good time, particularly (and not surprisingly) Farrell as Lipton, who at one point proclaims to Farrell-as-Farrell that "Divine inspiration hit you in the form of A Night at the Roxbury." Oh, and Blue Collar Productions' menu pages, which feature some titillating clips of wet-T-shirted co-eds stripping off their drenched upper garments, aren't bad, either. --Cyril Pearl
