Rugrats in Paris: The Movie
3/26/2001
Paramount, color, G, 78 min. plus supplements, Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, widescreen, $22.95 M.A.P
The gently ribald animated family adventure Rugrats in Paris: The Movie gets a modest bells and whistles presentation on DVD, perhaps because the target audience of toddlers-to-young teens isn't likely to focus on commentary tracks, deleted scenes and outtakes. The exceptions are two brief alternate endings that are each good for a chuckle. The brightly edited 17-minute documentary that goes behind the scenes to show the stars, including Susan Sarandon, voicing the heroes of Nickelodeon is welcome, but it's a little self-serving--an extended promo of sorts when there are already two on the disc as well as a trailer. Also included are a "sound effects showcase," which highlights a single scene, and two DVD-ROM games. The most useful supplement may be the complete "Who Let the Dogs Out" video by the Baha Men. In the distant future, there are those who will want to hear that song again and again. --Buzz McClain
