The world's most famous porno film, its key crew and cast members and the phenomena surrounding it provides the subject for this Dennis Hopper-narrated documentary, which received a highly hyped theatrical release earlier in the year. Through interviews, film clips and photos, directors Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato take a trip through the travails of late star Linda Lovelace, leading man Harry Reems and filmmaker Gerard Damaino before and after making the $25,000 film, which reputedly grossed $600 million. They also explore the connection between Deep Throat and the Mob as well as the various obscenity trials the film, its makers and theater owners endured. The NC-17 disc offers four more supplements than the R-rated version, but they are essentially a near-hour of outtakes. The best of these are quirky asides about Deep Throat's content, including a look at Lovelace being inducted posthumously into a porno Hall of Fame; Marilyn Chambers and Xaviera Hollander discussing the art of the film's title sexual act; a kooky view of the "Harry Reems Athletic Club" and some insight into the world of porn from Bill Maher, Norman Mailer and others.
