HBO's Entourage DVD is noticeably slimmer than the supplier's Deadwood and Sopranos collections, in both episode number and supplemental materials, but that shouldn't be a problem for those who've made the show a moderate hit for the cable giant. This collection includes the first eight episodes, three of which are coupled with commentaries by creator and writer Doug Ellin and executive producer Larry Charles. Veteran Charles (he has worked as a writer and producer on such shows as Seinfeld and Mad About You) is obviously the more comfortable of the two--he has to keep reminding Ellin to introduce himself to the viewers before plunging right in. They're both quintessential L.A. TV guys, speaking in a language that non-insiders might not get initially. At one point, Ellin says they wanted "kind of a Leo guy" in the lead role, presumably referring to Leonardo DiCaprio. And Charles refers to L.A. hot spot Koi as a "flesh and fish" type place. The fact is both are dead-set on convincing us that everything in the show is real and "not exaggerated;" the locations are the ones Hollywood types really frequent; the agent (played by Jeremy Piven) is based on a real person and so on. The only additional feature is a behind-the-scenes interview with cast and crew members, including producer (and the guy on whom the show is based) Mark Wahlberg and actors Kevin Dillon, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Connolly and Jerry Ferrara.
