PARAMOUNT Street: March 13, Prebook: Now > Great looking cast and unabashed sentimentalism make this a deserving classic.
This supernatural love story, which introduced a generation to the mournful ballad "Unchained Melody" and the joys of lovemaking by pottery wheel, offers a terrific comedic turn by Whoopi Goldberg and the easy-on-the-eyes combination of Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore as lovers who cheat death for one last embrace. Unfortunately, fans deserve a bit more from this special edition, as the supplements feel lean despite their good quality.
Shelf Talk: The second-highest-grossing film of 1990, Ghost was long overdue for a new edition following its DVD debut in 2001, particularly as it was selected by the AFI as one of the 100 best love stories of all time (it ranked No. 19). Though the supplements don't wholly deliver, the packaging is eye-catching, with a light-drenched Swayze and Moore locked in ethereal embrace. And the $14.98 SRP positions it to be an affordable spontaneous buy for those who believe. Fantasy drama, 126 min., PG-13 (mature themes, language, violence), DVD $14.98 Extras: director/screenwriter's commentary, three featurettes Director: Jerry Zucker First Run: W, July 1990, $217.6 mil.
