MARCH 19 | A new e-tail site has started, focusing on home entertainment for kids and their parents.
Bryan Townsend, a music industry veteran who owns Underdog Records in Atlanta, has started a Web site offering rare items for preschoolers.
Townsend began looking into children’s media after the birth of his now 1-year-old son. He then launched PokeyPup.com last fall, now with nearly 1,000 CD, DVD and book titles.
Sales have doubled each month so far.
“Our mission is to point to great music and other media, the kind of stuff that won’t numb your brain or drive you crazy,” Townsend says. “We won’t sell music or videos that are simply a merchandising tool. This is stuff that parents can enjoy right along with their kids.”
Product includes musical material from artists from around the world, both known and unknown, as well as DVD collections such as Sesame Street Old School: 1969-1974 and Here Come the ABCs, an educational DVD from alternative rock band They Might Be Giants.
