Country Music TV, Logo, Funimation, Geneon offer content on service

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business, 6/7/2007

Geneon's Akira will be available on Xbox Live as a high-def download.

JUNE 7 | Microsoft is continuing to add to the list of TV shows and movies available on Xbox Live Marketplace, announcing deals today with Viacom networks Country Music Television and Logo and anime companies Funimation and Geneon Entertainment.

Xbox Live Marketplace is available to Xbox 360 users, allowing them to buy TV show downloads and rent movie downloads, which can be stored and played back with the game console.

Xbox Live will sell high-definition downloads of anime classic Akira from Geneon. The distributor also will offer downloads of Gun Sword, Last Exile, Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo and Lupin the 3rd.

Funimation adds downloads of adventure series Samurai 7, Trinity Blood, Gunslinger Girl and Basilisk.

Funimation and Geneon join ADV Films, which already sells anime downloads through Xbox Live.

On the TV front, beginning June 6, Xbox Live will offer downloads of episodes from the first season of Comedy Stage, Foxworthy’s Big Night Out and Prankville, with additional episodes and series available this summer.

Starting June 11, Logo shows Wisecrack, The Big Gay Sketch Show and drama Noah’s Arc will be available for download.

Xbox Live already offers TV downloads from Viacom networks Comedy Central, MTV and VH1.
