AUG. 24 | For the European market, Sony Corp. will pump up PlayStation 3 with a device that will let people record and store live TV, according to an Associated Press report.

Named PlayTV, the device will let users record episodes or an entire TV series onto the PS3 hard drive. It will be offered in Spain, Germany, France, Italy and Britain in early 2008.

Sony has not specified, when or if, PlayTV will be available for the U.S. The product makes use of a European-specific format called Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T).

The company announced its PlayTV launch during the Games Convention this week in Germany.

Additionally, PlayTV will be able to access and run high-definition content. Any recorded video also can be wirelessly delivered to Sony’s PlayStation Portable.
