SEPT. 4 | As Apple sets the stage for a public relations extravaganza in San Francisco tomorrow, speculation is running rife in cyberspace about what exactly the company plans to announce.
The general consensus centers on the iPod, after the company sent out invitations for reporters and analysts to come to San Francisco's Moscone Center on cards featuring the dancing image from the iPhone advertising campaign.
Analysts have said the iPod, which has played second fiddle to the iPhone all summer, is due for an update.
Swirling speculation ranges from an iPod that offers digital radio service, presumably through a Wi-Fi connection similar to the iTunes application, to an iPod that runs on Mac OS X platform.
Another suggestion is that the next iPod will come with an iPhone-like wide touch-screen.
Or it's simply that the Beatles' complete catalog will be available on the iTunes store. Earlier this month, Apple signed a deal to feature John Lennon's musical catalog.
And finally, The Washington Post says it has obtained documents that indicate an iPhone Nano is on its way in the coming months.
Whatever the announcement, it appears that by tilting his hand ever so slightly, the company's enigmatic CEO Steve Jobs has generated misdirection powerful enough to ensure that the event will not be missed.
