Former Universal exec will oversee faith-based and family efforts

By Marcy Magiera -- Video Business, 9/17/2007

Rubin

SEPT. 17 | Sony Pictures Home Entertainment named industry veteran Robert W. Rubin executive VP, overseeing business affairs, new business development, negotiations with the creative community and faith-based and family entertainment.

Rubin will manage acquisitions and creative development of original product in the faith-based and family areas.

Prior to joining SPHE, Rubin held several senior executive positions at Universal Pictures, including executive VP of Universal Worldwide Entertainment and of Universal Home Entertainment Production, where he managed the development and production of sequels of studio franchises American Pie, Land Before Time, Bring It On, Beethoven and Curious George.

“The home entertainment industry has become a rapidly changing global business, which requires strong skills to create smart and immediate responses to new and old challenges. This includes the emergence of new technologies and the creation of resources and products to satisfy the interests of targeted and emerging special market groups,” said David Bishop, president of SPHE, to whom Rubin reports. “Bob’s fine reputation as a seasoned entertainment executive and his broad expertise in the areas of business affairs and production will be especially critical as SPHE expands its family entertainment and faith-based activities through the acquisition, development and production of content for these genres.”

“I am excited to join David’s superb management team, which includes some of the most respected executives in the home entertainment industry,” said Rubin. “SPHE continues to meet the challenges of the global market through innovative ideas as well as the distribution of quality product. I am hopeful that my experience on the business and creative side will complement SPHE’s plans as it expands on its rich legacy.”
