ARTS ALLIANCE AMERICA
Street: Nov. 6
Prebook: now
> Political doc about an against-all-odds candidate.

Released under the “Morgan Spurlock Presents” line, this film follows 94-year-old Doris “Granny D” Haddock, who decides to run for senator of New Hampshire when the Democratic candidate suddenly drops out of the race. Haddock’s candidacy seems a bit laughable at first: She has no professional experience, refuses to accept funding from special interests and, well, is 94. But Granny D wins over quite a few voters with her honest, sincere campaigning, and it’s pretty enjoyable to watch her shining moment, when she successfully debates against running mate Judd Gregg.

Shelf Talk: This touching human interest story should appeal to those who find politically minded films entertaining. Though Granny D runs on the Democratic ticket, Run Granny Run will appeal to both sides of the political spectrum, as her position is more for the true democratic spirit rather than ideology.

Documentary, color, NR (nothing offensive), 76 min., DVD $24.98
Extras: interview with Granny D and filmmakers, deleted scenes, bonus footage
Director: Marlo Poras
First Run: HBO, Nov. 2007
