> French nymph Nadia Fares scores in this chilling revenge thriller from Down Under.
Who knew there were depraved hillbillies in Australia? A stylish combo of Deliverance, Straw Dogs and I Spit on Your Grave, Storm Warning boasts a trio of ghastly villains that verily defines Dimension Extreme (as if Dimension needed more extremities). These toothless nasties are the Three Bears to lovely Nadia Fares’ Goldilocks when she and her husband (Robert Taylor) take a wrong turn on a rainy night—and although you know what’s coming, your stomach still doesn’t settle. For those who usually feel the bad guys get off too lightly in revenge-driven thrillers, you’ll be delighted—if that’s the word—to see Fares overcome her squeamish nature and put her wiles and powers to brutal use.
Shelf Talk: Director Jamie Blanks is known among horror fans for Urban Legend and Valentine, and you can be sure that followers are waiting for his next offering. As this is an Australian production with a French lead, name recognition will be problematic, save for Blanks. Weinstein/Genius has no plans to push this at retail beyond the usual, so it’s up to retailers to talk it up. Revenge horror—think Vacancy, Hostel and the Hitcher films—has remarkably strong legs.
