JAN. 18 | After reporting unexpected 2007 year losses, Trans World Entertainment will shut its North Canton, Ohio, distribution center in order to streamline operations.
The closure will impact 234 Trans World employees and will be completed in the next two months. Stores that were previously serviced by the North Canton facility will now use distribution centers in Albany, N.Y., and Carson, Calif.
Trans World also will close its fixture facility in Johnstown, N.Y., which will affect 18 employees.
Earlier this month, Trans World cited on-going CD softness and competitive catalog DVD pricing as contributing to weaker-than-expected holiday sales. The chain anticipates recording a $15 million to $20 million net loss for 2007.
