FEB. 21 | Like its anti-hero, Anton Chigurh, blowing through the Texas countryside, No Country for Old Men will lay waste to its competitors at the 80th annual Academy Awards on Sunday, according to subscribers of Netflix and Blockbuster.
The Coen brothers thriller will take four of the nine major awards, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem as Chigurh), Best Direction and Best Adapted Screenplay (from Cormac McCarthy’s novel), said Netflix, citing a survey of about 25,000 subscribers.
More than two in five people surveyed said No Country would win Best Picture, with There Will Be Blood a distant second at 19%. More than half polled predicted victory for Bardem and directors Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.
Almost two-thirds of those surveyed said Blood’s Daniel Day-Lewis will win Best Actor, while Juno’s Ellen Page is expected to take home the Best Actress award. Cate Blanchett, playing a Bob Dylan alter-ego in I’m Not There, will win Best Supporting Actress, said Netflix users.
Blockbuster subscribers surveyed said Johnny Depp would take home the Best Actor trophy for his titular performance in Sweeney Todd. But like Netflix users, Blockbuster's survey had Page winning the Best Actress Oscar.
For supporting roles, Blockbuster's users chose actor Philip Seymour Hoffman in Charlie Wilson's War and actress Ruby Dee in American Gangster.
The Awards will be broadcast on ABC Sunday at 5 p.m. Pacific time.
