Picture This!

Disney “It Girl” Ashley Tisdale plays to her natural strengths in this teen-targeted romantic comedy in which she goes to great lengths using a video phone to convince her over-protective father (Kevin Pollack) that she’s at a friend’s house studying on the night of a big party. Tisdale and the supporting cast—Life With Derek’s Robbie Amell and Heartland’s Cindy Busby, among others—keep things light and lively in this socially aware screwball fantasy under the steady hand of director Stephen Herek (Mr. Holland’s Opus, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure). Picture This! is nothing shockingly original, but it’s solid entertainment for the target demographic.

Shelf Talk: Tisdale’s Q rating is off the chart thanks to The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and, of course, the High School Musical franchise. With High School Musical 3: Senior Year on the way this fall and the expected promotion and marketing to ’tweeners and teens prior to the July 13 ABC Family broadcast of Picture This!, street-date awareness will be high. Be aware: References to “deflowering” and “hump and dump” doesn’t add much raunch, but it sure stretches the ABC Family boundaries.
