Feisty, fun-loving septuagenarian author Sarah Miller (Florence Henderson) suffers a fatal heart attack just before celebrating the 11th birthday of her adoring granddaughter Katie (Stephanie Patton). Welcomed into Heaven, Sarah prepares to experience a happy afterlife, but when heartbroken Katie becomes desperately ill, the author returns to Earth in a bid to save her life. Although unavoidably cloying at times, the briskly paced For Heaven’s Sake! offers a life-affirming message and uses Henderson’s wholesome image to good advantage. It stresses the importance of faith but doesn’t go overboard on religiosity.

Shelf Talk: Imagine Albert Brooks’ Defending Your Life without the satirical bite, and you’ll have a good idea of what For Heaven’s Sake! is like. Although top-billed Henderson of The Brady Bunch fame has deliberately poked fun at her squeaky-clean image in recent years, she’s still seen as the perfect mom, and her persona is the film’s greatest asset. With that imprimatur, you’ll have an easy time moving this film to traditionalist, faith-based families.
