Seed

By Ed Grant -- Video Business, 9/1/2008

VIVENDI
Street: Sept. 9
Prebook: now
> Serial-killer flick that borrows liberally from Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

A derivative police procedural with outbursts of sadistic violence, Seed is the story of an unkillable serial killer (Will Sanderson), who is clearly modeled after Leatherface, with a hint of the WWE’s “Mankind.” After surviving the electric chair, he is buried alive by the police, whom he then returns to butcher mercilessly. Producer-writer-director Uwe Boll ends the movie abruptly, with an obvious eye toward Seed 2.

Shelf Talk: Seed is aimed at fans of the Saw series and Hostel, and it should do brisk business among extreme gorehounds. Boll is notorious for the wretched reviews his movies receive, but his titles (BloodRayne) have done quite well on disc. Seed is supplemented by a second disc that contains PC game Advent Rising.

Horror, color, NR (violence, strong language), 90 min., DVD $26.99
Extras: director’s commentary, featurettes, deleted scenes
Director: Uwe Boll
