Moscow Zero

Street: Nov. 4
Prebook: Oct. 2
>Supernatural thriller gets by on eerie atmosphere and known cast.

Brooding, deadly serious and reminiscent in some ways of the Russian Nightwatch, Daywatch and Twilight Watch trilogy, Moscow Zero is an international supernatural suspenser spiked with recognizable names, ambitious intentions and physically impressive production values. Vincent Gallo is Owen, a Russian priest who searches Moscow’s underground catacombs in search of anthropologist friend Sergei (Rade Serbedzija). As the priest travels deeper into Earth, he begins to encounter demons and possibly a gateway to hell. The film’s methodical pacing might turn off younger horror fans, but Moscow Zero nonetheless delivers in atmosphere and diabolical mood.

Shelf Talk: In addition to Gallo, Val Kilmer and Joss Ackland also add name recognition to this title, which received no theatrical exposure in the U.S. Sony is aiming for coverage in a number of genre magazines and Web sites even though the disc’s box art of a red cross is less horrific and more religious.

Adventure/horror, color, R (language, violence), 82 min., DVD $24.96
Extras: none
Director: Luna
First Run: L Int’l., April 2007, NA
