Nokia's new apps store includes video

Company's Ovi Store includes app for downloading from Amazon

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business, 5/27/2009

MAY 27 | MOBILE: Speaking at the All Things Digital conference in San Diego Wednesday, Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo talked up some of the new video apps available through Nokia’s just launched app store.

Nokia’s Ovi Store, launched Tuesday, includes an app allowing users to download movies from Amazon, Kallasvuo said. Users can also record video with their phones and upload it to YouTube.

The Ovi Store had a troubled launch earlier this week, with the site going down for several hours, with users unable to login or download apps and a tangle of other problems. Kallasvuo blamed the problems on high traffic and said they’ve been resolved.

Like the iPhone App store, the Ovi Store features movie-related and other games, movie trailers, podcasts and location-based services applications.

Among the video apps is MinimobiTV, a subscription service that allows viewer watch TV on their phones and episodes of some TV shows such as Speed Racer.

Ovi Store apps run on about 60 different Nokia S40 and S60 phone models.
