> Teenage Christina Ricci stars in this expressive adaptation of the classic fairy tale.
Christina Ricci was still cherub-cheeked when she starred in this dreamy, strangely humorous take on the classic fairy tale. Flavored with a little Cocteau and a dash of German Expressionism, it’s evocatively shot in black and white and set to a Debussy score, with Quentin Crisp providing the sly narration. At the center of it all is Ricci, whose dark femininity is the key to playing up the tale’s suppressed sexuality and longing.
Shelf Talk: Filmmaker David Kaplan’s short—as well as his other short fairy tales, two of which also are included in the package—has made considerable noise on the festival circuit and the Internet over the years. Little Red Riding Hood is something of a cult title, so let the underground cinemaniacs and lovers of all things Ricci know about it.
