Night Train - DVD Review

By Buzz McClain -- Video Business, 6/22/2009

NATIONAL
Street: July 7
Prebook: now
> Star power goes along for a suspenseful nocturnal ride.

What starts out as a quiet winter ride through the night turns out to be quite an eerie journey of mayhem and intrigue on conductor Danny Glover’s train. Debuting director Brian King ushers his veteran cast of theatrical stalwarts—including Leelee Sobieski and Steve Zahn—through a twisty, somewhat bloody story that Stephen King might have written in his younger days. The payoff—built around a rather dubious McGuffin—falls short, but the build-up and performances are amusing.

Shelf Talk: Mystery, thriller and suspense fans will appreciate the convincing production values, while generalists will be drawn by the cast. Blockbuster has an exclusive until street date, but after that, push the stars and the generous 50 minutes of bonus material.

Thriller, color, R (language, violence, gore, sexual situations), 91 min., DVD or BD $24.98
Extras: behind-the-scenes footage, interviews
Director: Brian King
First Run: DVD premiere
