SEPT. 28 | DIGITAL: Beginning with Godzilla, Sony will make it easier for PlayStation Portable users to transfer digital copies from Blu-ray Disc for on-the-go watching.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment America will add a new feature to Blu-ray releases allowing owners of the PSP and PlayStation 3 to directly transfer a film to their portable from the PS3. Currently, Sony includes the digital copy of Blu-ray movies on a separate DVD-ROM for transfer to the PSP.
Sony will include the new Blu-ray feature on Nov. 10 release Godzilla, upcoming release The Ugly Truth and select other releases. For Godzilla, the only Digital Copy included will be the new feature on the Blu-ray disc, meaning that it will only be available to owners of both the PSP and PS3. For The Ugly Truth, Sony will include a Digital Copy on the Blu-ray Disc for PSP and PS3 owners and on a separate DVD-ROM for transfer to Apple iTunes or the PC.
“Blu-ray is already known as the best way to watch movies at home, and now SPHE & SCEA are also making it the most convenient way to watch movies on the go,” SPHE VP of new business development Rich Marty said in a statement announcing the feature.
Sony Computer director of hardware marketing John Koller called the feature an innovation that will allow “users to easily take the best in movie and entertainment content on-the-go—all of which is only possible on the PSP and PS3 platforms.”
