> Strange and funny Finnish Star Trek spoof.
Finnish filmmaker Samuli Torssonen, along with several collaborators, has been writing, producing, frequently directing and starring in a bunch of Finnish Star Trek parodies for the past 15 years. His most recent effort (in which he did everything but direct) is 2005’s Star Wreck: In the Pirkinning, which is being released stateside as simply Star Wreck. Featuring such characters as James B. Pirk (Torssonen) and Commander Dwarf (director Timo Vuorensola) and tipping its hat to the Babylon 5 TV series, Star Wreck is a funny sci-fi comedy with above-average effects, likeable characters and appropriately silly plotting.
Shelf Talk: Trekkies and sci-fi fans have been buzzing about Star Wreck online and are stoked about its imminent U.S. release, particularly as it has been well-received by a similar fanbase overseas. Lower your deflector shields to let this one in.
