> Amy Adams shines as a jazz singer in this romantic drama.
Amy Adams sings—what more do you need to know? Shot three years ago—post-Junebug, pre-Enchanted—Moonlight showcases the two-time Oscar nominee’s natural acting skills and vocal abilities as a coat check girl who reluctantly falls for equally over-cautious stock broker Alec Newman, who happens to play mean jazz piano in his off hours. The only limitations are budgetary, and in the best of indie traditions, there’s a winning charm that overcomes the sometimes strained staging.
Shelf Talk: Adams’ fan base is growing with each hit (Julie & Julia, Doubt), and when fans take in Moonlight, they won’t be disappointed. Magnolia is planning some visibility on social-networking sites, but make sure you display this one front and center and play up Adams, who’s featured prominently on the box art.
