U.K. genre site readies for launch
Film Lounge aims to bow with 60 titles
The Film Lounge, founded by Terry Stone, Mike Watson and Anthony Nottage, will specialize in R-rated genre horror, true crime, martial arts and action films.
Stone is hoping to launch the site with 60 titles, the majority of which he intends to be exclusive to the site. The site will offer multi-platform accessibility for auds across their PCs, games consoles, mobiles and PDAs as well as online streaming.
Stone has already inked a deal with up-and-coming Brit helmer Julian Gilbey (“Rise of the Foot Soldier”) to offer his feature “Reckoning Day” on the site.
The price of downloads will initially be £1.99 ($3.96) for the first three months of operation, before moving to a more flexible system based on a film’s user-generated reviews.
“The price you pay depends on the popularity with the viewers,” said Stone. “We’re going to be acting as a distributor, sales agent and marketing company for the films. By building the on-line awareness we can then cut DVD or TV distribution deals on behalf of the producer.”
The site will be launching tailor-made marketing campaigns for each film in addition to offering them for download.
“There’s no other website like this at the moment,” added Stone. “We want to take out the middlemen and promote British film.”
