MAY 8 | A clip spoofing the Greek battle film 300 gained popularity on YouTube last year and has spawned a feature-length “mockumentary” that will be released on DVD July 8 by Allumination FilmWorks.
The movie began as a YouTube short.
Five-minute clip The 305 was created by brothers Daniel Holechek and David Holechek and tells the story of five less-than-buff members of the Spartan Army guarding a goat path.
The Holechek brothers produced the feature-length version, 305, which will be released by Allumination as a DVD premiere.
The release may be the first example of a feature-length film created from a short clip that gained notoriety on YouTube, the world’s most popular Web video site. The short clip was the second-most viewed video on YouTube last July, according to Allumination.
The DVD of the film, which has aired at the Palm Beach International Film Festival and Newport Beach Film Festival, will retail for $29.98. Prebook date is May 27.
