By Susanne Ault -- Video Business, 10/3/2007

OCT. 3 | Blu-ray backing studios and manufacturers are extending their ‘5 free BD movie’ promotion through the holidays.

Consumers who buy any qualifying Blu-ray set-top or PlayStation 3 between now and Jan. 31, 2008, can choose five free Blu-ray Disc movies from a selection of 18 titles.

It was important for Blu-ray supporters to continue the deal, as they expect this fourth quarter to represent the best shopping period yet for high-definition.

Studios contributing to the promotion are Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, MGM Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.

The pool of titles includes Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Wild Hogs, American Psycho, Chain Reaction, The Devil’s Rejects, Flight of the Phoenix, Full Metal Jacket, Hart’s War and The Last Waltz. Also featured are Omen 66, The Patriot, The Prestige, Species, Stir of Echoes, Superman: The Movie, SWAT, Swordfish and Ultraviolet.

Manufacturers participating in the deal are Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony Electronics and Sony Computer Entertainment.
