NOV. 8 | Image Entertainment has extended its North American output agreement with the Criterion Collection through July 31, 2013.
Going forward, Image retains exclusive distribution rights to Criterion programming on DVD, including discs generated through kiosk-based, manufacturing-on-demand initiatives.
Best known for releasing well-regarded, but often obscure fare, Criterion will hold onto the digital and broadcast rights of its content.
Currently, Criterion houses 350 DVD titles and 10 films under its value-priced Eclipse line. Criterion releases three to four titles each month, and Eclipse streets two to three new series each quarter.
The pact, terms of which were not disclosed, replaces the last deal between Image and Criterion, signed in August 2005.
“Image and Criterion have been business partners for nearly 20 years, and they are a cornerstone of our distributed programming,” Image chief operating officer David Borshell said. “We remain dedicated to supporting Criterion’s unmatched DVD productions and their desire of providing cineastes with the ultimate home video experience.”
Criterion CEO Jonathan Turell added, “We’re very happy with our longstanding distribution relationship with Image and are thrilled to have solidified it for many years to come. Image represents us very well, and they have a fantastic team of people committed to our mutual success, and for that, we thank them.”
