AT&T launches Star Wars mobile title

MOBILE: THQ-LucasArts game available through May 15

By Danny King -- Video Business, 5/4/2009

MAY 4 | MOBILE: AT&T today launched the Star Wars Battlefront: Mobile Squadrons videogame available for its mobile-phone users, more than a week before the THQ-LucasArts title gets a broader release. AT&T also announced its most popular mobile game titles for the first quarter.

AT&T customers can download Mobile Squadrons from the Media Mall site for $7.99 through May 15.

"We are pleased to give our customers the first opportunity to experience Star Wars Battlefront: Mobile Squadrons directly from their mobile phones," Glenn Broderick, executive director of gaming at AT&T, said in a statement.

Among games publishers and distributors, AT&T is looking to benefit from a casual-gaming market forecast by Parks Associates to reach $1 billion by 2013. AT&T's first-quarter wireless data revenue, which includes mobile applications, surged 39% from a year earlier, compared to a slight drop in companywide sales, AT&T said last month.

The company's top 10 performing games for the first quarter were topped by Tetris, Bejeweled and Guitar Hero World Tour Mobile.
