MAY 6 | MOBILE: Canadian mobile TV company QuickPlay Media has begun offering its subscription TV service PrimeTime2Go on BlackBerry phones in the U.S., the company announced Tuesday.
For a $7.99 monthly subscription, BlackBerry users can get access to recent shows from ABC and other Disney networks including ESPN, CBS, NBC and NBC Universal-owned cable networks and Discovery Communications. Subscribers can download Lost, The Office, CSI and other leading shows directly to their phones over a wi-fi network for playback within a restricted time period. The playback window varies by network. Users also can pause shows to resume watching later.
The app also has a My Series feature, which allows users to choose their favorite shows so new episodes will be downloaded automatically.
The service is only available on the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve 8900 phones. Consumers can download the app from their phone through BlackBerry App World.
QuickPlay VP of marketing Mark Hyland said the company is looking at launching the service on other phone platforms, such as the iPhone.
QuickPlay also has had preliminary discussions about offering movie downloads.
“For this service, it’s TV-focused, but it hasn’t escaped our notice that the service would work for movies,” he said.
