VELOCITY
A mysterious serial killer who shoots his victims only in the eyes and ears is terrorizing an urban community. A police officer (Roberts) is assigned to the case and discovers the killer might be a creature from another planet that uses humans as trade. This cosmic thriller seems to proudly wear its B-movie categorization on its sleeve. Feasting on a lowbrow meal of sex and violence, the film shows mass murder and two counts of female full frontal nudity within its first 10 minutes. Roberts brings comic relief to an already comical premise as a wisecracking cop who seeks to get to the bottom of these bizarre attacks. As he discovers more about the killer, things continue to get more weird, confusing and campy. The acting is played very tongue-in-cheek, although Rhys-Davies seems at times to want to be taken seriously. If so, he shouldn't be doing exploitative alien serial killer movies. An audience very much exists for this kind of movie, including Roberts' fans, who will follow him wherever he chooses to go with a role. But those who enjoy seeing some naked girls in between shots of otherworldly creatures driving invisible vans should be in for a good time. --Mekado Murphy
