Story Line: Man-about-town Brad (Baratta) has commitment problems stemming from the death of his mother. He has his way with many lovely women until he meets Yuki (Tung), whose exotic beauty and vulnerability draw him out of his shell. Little does he know, he's being set up for a big fall.
Bottom Line: Originally entitled She Said I Love You, Cruel Game spends more than three quarters of its screen time developing a rather standard romance-novel story before shifting to, in script-talk, "the big reveal" that sets up the hasty final scene. Well shot, Cruel Game does have its moments, however, and the gorgeous cast, which also features former Playboy Playmate of the Year Victoria Silvstedt, is easy on the eyes. Yet, the overly complicated fantasy is too lightweight to add up to much, and the end is less than tidy. Also know that nominal top-line star Rubin has a limited appearance as a therapist. Undemanding erotic thriller fans are your best bet, because the thriller elements are limited to the final reel. --Buzz McClain
