World number one and top seed Amelie Mauresmo from France and third seed Justine Henin Hardenne from Belgium contested an exciting Women¹s Singles Final. Mauresmo won the encounter to become the first French Women¹s Champion since Suzanne Lenglen in 1925.

Federer¹s quest for an eighth Grand Slam title was a majestic journey. After a second round straight sets victory over an unseeded Tim Henman, the three time champion arrived in the Final without the loss of a set.
