Web site Hello Movies helps users find films

By Jennifer Netherby -- Video Business,06/04/2009

JUNE 4 | DIGITAL: Startup Web site Hello Movies is hoping to capitalize on the growing number of places to find movies online. Users can type in a movie on the search site and find every place a film is available to watch online and on demand. It was started last month by four Stanford students, now venture funders, who came up with the idea after they couldn’t find a movie to watch while hanging out one night, said president Steve Fan.

Unlike recommendation engine Jinni and others that seek to help users find movies they might like, Hello Movies is focused on indexing all movies available online from iTunes to Crackle to Comcast On Demand—and everything in between.

Hello Movies makes money from advertisements and affiliate sales through Amazon, Netflix and other online retailers. It is funded partly by the founder of TV review Web site Futon Critic, who also is a partner.

“Essentially we want to be the one-stop shop for however you want to get the movie,” Fan said.

Cheers to Hello Movies on an interesting project. Linking users to the wide variety of viewing options, both online and off, is part of our project at Jinni.com as well. Our core focus, though, is our innovative approach and technology for discovering new movies and shows.
