Chapter 27 opens up with Vice

Genius Products has a couple of upcoming releases that should interest fans of action, thrillers and shoot-’em-up films. On the serious side, Chapter 27 dramatizes Mark David Chapman’s days leading up to his killing of John Lennon. Also coming from Genius is the action thriller Vice, which stars Michael Madsen as a detective who learns that the line between right and wrong can be blurred when it comes to money, power and greed. Daryl Hannah, who also stars, served as executive producer along with Madsen; the two are reunited after both starred in Kill Bill. Rapper Kurupt also stars. —Cindy Spielvogel

Chapter 27 Jared Leto stars as Mark David Chapman, the disturbed drifter who came to New York and killed ex-Beatle John Lennon. Street Sept. 30, prebook Aug. 26; DVD $19.95

Action thrillers explode on Blu

In searching for genres best suited for new formats, action thrillers come to mind, and several suppliers are releasing such films on Blu-ray Disc. Warner Home Video has a slate of action films making their Blu-ray debut on Sept. 2: Eraser, Outbreak, Under Siege 2, Every Which Way But Loose and The Gauntlet. Arriving later on Blu-ray from Warner are Interview With the Vampire and Poltergeist. 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is releasing a director’s cut of Daredevil on Blu-ray, and it’s distributing MGM Home Entertainment’s James Bond Blu-ray collection in October, which will arrive before the theatrical release of the next Bond film, Quantum of Solace, in November. Finally, Blue Underground will release a Blu-ray version of The Final Countdown, a 1980 film starring Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen. —C.S.
