> Raw, bone-chilling footage from the U.S. occupation, from an un-embedded journalist.Freelance journalist Mike Shiley offers the fruits of his un-embedded travels through
Iraq in this superbly candid portrait of the U.S. occupation. Shiley does a top-notch job of ferreting out the real opinions of average Iraqis and American soldiers, focusing on content ignored by network and cable news programs, such as the recent emergence of foreign porn in Baghdad’s DVD shops and movie theaters; a late-night “rant session” in which enlisted men and women talk freely (and in very harsh ways) about their officers and the Iraqi people; and a bone-chilling scene taken from an Apache helicopter that shows the killing of suspected insurgents and one civilian.
Shelf Talk: Though Shiley lacks the name recognition of Michael Moore, Inside Iraq is as uncensored as the video clips from Iraq that soldiers have been posting on YouTube. The film, which was entered in 14 international film festivals and won prizes at three, has no political agenda but will appeal more to viewers who oppose the war. Inside Iraq was originally issued in 2005 but is now enjoying a wider re-release through Passion River.
