JULY 11 | Netflix subscribers have watched more than 5 million movies and TV shows online through the retailer's Watch Now movie service since it launched in January.
“Netflix continues to raise the bar to connect people with movies they love with great convenience, selection and value,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said.
The service also is reportedly getting more Web traffic than competitors Amazon Unbox, Vongo and CinemaNow.
Netflix has 2,000 films and TV shows available on the site, including NBC’s The Office, Warner Home Video’s The Matrix and Paramount Home Entertainment’s Jackass: The Movie. Netflix continues to add more and is targeting 5,000 films online by year-end.
Films are streamed to a PC but cannot be downloaded. (Read our review.)
Netflix members are allotted a certain number of online viewing hours each month based on their subscription level. Subscribers on the $4.99 a month plan get five hours of online viewing per month, for instance, whereas those on the $17.99, three-movies-out-at-a-time plan get 18 hours of online viewing each month.
