SEPT. 4 | Amazon’s expansion into music downloads could finally launch this month.

Sony BMG Music Entertainment's Columbia Records today premiered Bruce Springsteen's music video "Radio Nowhere" at Amazon.com, which promoted the exclusive on its home page. The agreement promotes the first song released on the New Jersey rocker's upcoming album Magic, the first album produced with the E Street Band since 2002.

In May, the online retailer said it would offer millions of songs from more than 12,000 music labels in an MP3 format. Unlike iTunes, the songs could be transferred limitlessly among Apple's iPod and other portable music players.

Amazon already offers movie downloads through its Unbox service, which launched a year ago.

Analysts say Amazon's new effort would receive a healthy backing from the music industry, which would like to see more competition in the digital music market as it’s dominated to the tune of 80% by Apple.
