SEPT. 20 | Image Entertainment is launching a new urban label, One Village Entertainment, to be headed by newly appointed VP of urban programming Brett Dismuke.

One Village titles will be distributed over multiple platforms, including theatrical, broadcast, DVD and digital streaming and downloading. Upcoming releases include romantic comedy Love and Other 4 Letter Words, music documentary Two Turntables and a Mic about Jam Master Jay and Life is Not a Fairy Tale, shown on VH-1, starring Fantasia Barrino.

In conjunction with the launch of One Village, Image also announced it will produce and distribute documentaries and narrative feature films with Rugged Entertainment, a production company formed by Peter Spirer, director of top-selling Image urban titles Notorious BIG: Bigger Than Life, Thug Angel: Life of Tupac Shakur and the Beef trilogy. The first documentary produced under the agreement should arrive by mid-2008, and Rugged also will acquire titles for the venture.

Dismuke, who previously served at Disney, Polygram and Universal Music, will work closely with Image director of urban marketing David Kimbrough.

“The launch of One Village signifies our long-term dedication to serving the urban marketplace,” Image chief operating officer David Borshell said. “Over the past several years, we have built a substantial library which includes many of the industry’s top-selling urban programs. Under the One Village label, we will maintain our aggressive acquisition efforts and continue to bring the urban consumer exciting and creative content.”
