Korbelin, Grasic join as managing partners
By Cindy Spielvogel -- Video Business, 11/21/2007
NOV. 21 | Jan Korbelin and Marina Grasic, who executive produced Crash, have joined Palm Pictures as managing partners.
“We’re planning to build on Palm’s strengths in music, documentaries and independent films,” said Korbelin.
The new partners plan to take Palm from five to six theatrical releases a year to eight to 12 within three or four years, he said. They also plan to release an additional 15 to 20 titles a year directly to DVD within three years.
Budgets probably will be in the range of $150,000 to $1 million for music titles, $150,000 to $1.5 million for documentaries and $1.5 million to $8 million or $9 million for films, eventually building to $12 million to $15 million, Korbelin said.
Some larger-budgeted productions might be released through a major studio, he added.
“We’ve come in with a fresh vision to take the skills we’ve honed on the finance and production side over the last 20 years to add to Palm as it expands from acquisitions and distribution to a full-fledged studio,” said Grasic.
Korbelin and Grasic also executive produced Alpha Dog starring Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone and upcoming films Flashbacks of a Fool starring Daniel Craig, Smart People starring Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker, and The Lucky Ones starring Tim Robbins.
Palm founder Chris Blackwell will take on a more involved role in the company as chairman.
