> Lowbrow comedy aims straight for the groin and rarely misses.
This comedy’s clever premise begins with dentist Charlie Logan (Dane Cook), who can’t sustain a relationship because his lady friends invariably find their soul mate after bedding him once. Problems arise when Charlie becomes smitten with accident-prone zoologist Cam (Jessica Alba), and he must avoid getting intimate for fear of losing her. This cute idea is sabotaged at the outset by puerile scripting, and the film quickly degenerates into a series of non-arousing sexual encounters, coarse jokes and silly courtship scenarios.
Shelf Talk: One of the worst-reviewed films of 2007, Good Luck Chuck still managed to pull in $35 million at the box office. Both Cook and Alba obviously have loyal followings. Fans of the former’s stand-up comedy DVDs can be counted on to support this turkey; ditto for Alba’s adorers, who are undoubtedly prepping their 'pause’ button thumbs for the scenes that find the actress in her underwear.
