JAN. 21 | INDIE FILM GUIDE: Screen Media Films is launching the Spotlight Initiative with the Creative Coalition (www.thecreativecoalition.org).
Screen Media’s title is about a family coping with mental illness.
“At Sundance, we will look to acquire social issues films that will benefit from the partnership,” says Robert Baruc, president of Screen Media.
The Creative Coalition and Screen Media first worked together by advocating mental health issues during the theatrical release of Canvas, starring Marcia Gay Harden and Joe Pantoliano, who is president of the Coalition. Canvas, which is about a family coping with mental illness, will be released Jan. 29 on DVD (prebook now; $27.98).
The Coalition’s efforts on behalf of other issues-based films from Screen Media could involve screenings in Washington with Congressional leaders and celebrities, advocacy days and roundtables with leaders around the country, according to Robin Bronk, Coalition executive director.
