Music video sales grow in 2007

MAY 2 | Packaged music video sales returned to growth in 2007, according to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, following a dramatic decline in 2006.
Labels shipped 27.5 million units to retail in 2007, up 18.6%, representing a value of $485 million, up 7.5%, RIAA said. In 2006, music video shipments fell 31.5% to 23.2 million units, with value falling 25.1%, to $451 million.
The peak year for music video was 2005, when 33.8 million units, valued at $602 million, were shipped. In 2004, 32.8 million units were sold, which was a significant increase from the prior year, in 2003, when 19.9 million units were shipped.
Digital music video sales were up 43% in 2007, to 14.2 million units, valued at $28 million. Digital sales are mostly of short-form videos, while DVD sales are most long-form programs.Talkback
