Studios tie-in DVD releases with soundtracks
Titles include musical American Mall, doc Young @ Heart

JUNE 19 | Studios are getting musical in their marketing for upcoming DVD releases. Upcoming DVDs from Warner Home Video, Paramount Home Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment will be released on DVD around the same time as their soundtracks on CD.
Timed near Warner’s Sept. 16 street date for DVD premiere Another Cinderella Story, Razor & Tie will release the film’s soundtrack on Aug. 26. Available on DVD ($27.95) and Blu-ray ($35.99), this sequel to 2004’s Hilary Duff-starring A Cinderella Story is about a teenager (Selena Gomez of Disney Channel’s The Wizards of Waverly Place) who falls for “prince charming” (Drew Seeley of the High School Musical tour). The DVD (prebook Aug. 12) will include featurettes and a music video.
Another Warner DVD premiere, Lost Boys: The Tribe, also will have a soundtrack tie-in. Released July 22 by Adrenaline Records, only a few days before the July 29 (order now) DVD ($27.95) and BD ($35.99) release, the Lost Boys soundtrack will contain 15 songs from such contemporary artists as The Hold Steady and The Von Bondies.
MTV’s musical romantic comedy The American Mall, which will premiere on the music channel on Aug. 11, will arrive at retail Aug. 12 on DVD ($24.99; prebook July 1) from Paramount, with the CD soundtrack released by MTV. American Mall follows a group of young adults who work in a mall during the summer.
And Fox’s music documentary Young @ Heart will street Sept. 16 (prebook Aug. 6) on DVD ($27.98), while the film’s soundtrack will have a digital-only release on July 1 from Rhino. The music label also will re-release Young @ Heart—Mostly Live on CD and as a digital download on Aug. 19. Fox will release its film, which follows a senior citizen chorus, with deleted scenes and a featurette.
