Looking for a little mystery? Then Agatha Christie’s Poirot: The Complete Films Collection (street Sept. 23, prebook Aug. 26; 12-disc set $99.95), starring David Suchet, will keep customers on the edge of their seats. Just in time for the holidays, the entire five-time Emmy Award-winning series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Complete Series Megaset (street Oct. 28, prebook Sept. 30; 42-disc set $229.95) will be available for the first time, in a leather-bound collector’s set.
Acorn—Palms 31-101, 31-105
Coinciding with its TV debut is the World War II mystery series Foyle’s War, Set 5, the latest release of one of the most highly acclaimed and popular programs on PBS. The first set of Foyle’s War is Acorn’s No. 1 best-selling DVD, and all four already released sets rank among the company’s Top 13 in all-time sales. The fifth set arrives in its U.K. broadcast version on Aug. 5 (prebook July 8; three-disc set $49.99).
Allumination—Fantasy 35-205
Baby Blues (street Aug. 5, prebook June 24; DVD $29.98), the horror tale of a 10-year-old boy who is forced to protect his siblings should not be confused with the comic strip of the same name. Judge Judy: Second to None (street Sept. 9, prebook Aug. 5; DVD $14.98) is the second installment of America’s most-watched judge.

Straight Men and the Men Who Love Them 2 (street July 15, prebook now; DVD $29.95) is a collection of short films, including Tease, Subconscious, Courtship at the Office, Midnight Snack, Thirteen or So Minutes..., The House of Adam (the original short), Confidences, Soldiers Choice and Reunited. Coming to store shelves Oct. 14, horror flick The Gay Bed & Breakfast of Terror (prebook Sept. 2; DVD $29.95) was an official selection at the 2007 Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival, among others.

A Sundance Film Festival favorite, Never Forever (street July 15, prebook now; DVD $27.95) is a story of forbidden love between a Korean immigrant and a Caucasian housewife. With a price point still to be determined, The Donna Reed Show Season 1, which aired in 1958, will come home on Oct. 28 (prebook Sept. 23).

Debuting July 15 is the anime series Toward the Terra as two DVDs, Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 (both prebook now; $19.98 each), along with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: Complete Collection (four-disc set $59.98).

The Devil’s Dominoes stars Daniel Baldwin as a sheriff investigating the accidental killing of the son of a Mob boss. Six men leave Ireland to travel to London in search of wealth and dignity in Kings, which was Ireland’s entry for the 2008 Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds 3D Concert is the concert film of the star’s 2007 tour, coming to DVD (two-disc set $34.99) and Blu-ray ($34.99) on Aug. 19 (prebook July 8). Available for a limited time, The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning is a new animated movie from the franchise, taking the story back to its beginnings (street Aug. 26, prebook July 15; DVD $29.99).

First Look—Fantasy 33-205, 33-221
August (street Aug. 26, prebook July 22; DVD $28.98) follows Josh Hartnett as a dot-com entrepreneur who fights to keep his start-up company afloat. Finding Rin Tin Tin (street Sept. 16, prebook Aug. 12; DVD $24.98) is based on the true story of an American corporal and his German Shepherd, who, after the end of the Great War, stared in 14 feature films. Also coming from First Look: Cybill: The Collector’s Edition Vol. 1 (street Sept. 16, prebook Aug. 12; two-disc set $24.98) and Grace Under Fire: Season (street Oct. 7, prebook Sept. 2; three-disc set $24.98).

When newlyweds arrive in Japan for the husband’s latest photography assignment, his pictures start revealing a recurring ghostly image that may be connected to his past in Shutter (street July 15, prebook now; DVD $29.98, Blu-ray $39.98). On a much lighter note, Garfield’s Fun Fest, a new animated movie starring the comic cat, arrives Aug. 5 (prebook July 9; DVD $19.98).

Anime fans have a couple of DVD sets to look forward to from Funimation. After enduring trials that would have crushed any other soul, Goku is now faced with the most important journey of his life in Dragon Ball GT Season One. In Dragon Ball Z Season Six (episodes 166-194), Cell proposes a tournament to demonstrate his newfound abilities and prove his superiority. Both sets arrive Sept. 16 (prebook Aug. 12; DVD $49.98 each).

The journey of a lifetime for a young girl begins when she runs away from her abusive home in When I Find the Ocean (street Aug. 5, prebook July 8; DVD $24.95). The Sensation of Sight (street Sept. 2, prebook July 29; DVD $24.95) is an offbeat drama about a man’s search for meaning amidst the ache of despair.

Families can enjoy a movie night together with Adventures of Johnny Tao (street July 29, prebook July 1; DVD $24.95). A woman with a terminal illness is on a quest for retribution in Juncture (street Aug. 12, prebook July 15; DVD $24.95). Love and Mary (street Aug. 19, prebook July 22; DVD $24.95) is a romantic comedy about a pastry chef willing to go to extreme lengths to save her bakery. Finally, MTI will release Monty Lapica’s Self-Medicated (street Sept. 23, prebook Aug. 26; DVD $24.95). Based on true events, the story of an out-of-control 17-year-old’s confinement in a psychiatric hospital had a limited theatrical release through ThinkFilm.
MVD—Palms 5-106
Arriving on DVD July 8, Snoop-Dogg: Drop It Like It’s Hot (prebook now; DVD $19.95) chronicles the rapper’s 2005 performance in Brussels. With the same dates and price, Limp Bizkit: Rock in the Park captures two versions—original and remix—of the band’s performance at Nuremburg’s Rock in the Park Festival in June 2001.

Filmed over a three-year period, We Are Together (street Sept. 9, prebook Aug. 20; DVD $19.98) celebrates the indomitable spirit of the children at the Agape Orphanage in Durban, South Africa. Patti Smith: Dream of Life (street Jan. 6, prebook Dec. 17; DVD $29.98) is a plunge into the philosophy and artistry of the complicated and charismatic recording artist.
Peace Arch—Fantasy 33-223
A teenager turns her baby-sitting service into a call-girl service for married men after fooling around with one of her customers in The Babysitters (street Sept. 16, prebook Aug. 19; DVD $29.99). When a teenager’s mother dies, his road trip in a stolen car to reunite with his long-lost brother becomes a rollercoaster of self-discovery in The Go-Getter (street Oct. 21, prebook Sept. 23; DVD $19.99). What We Do is Secret (street Nov. 4, prebook Oct. 7; DVD $29.99) is a biopic of punk legend Darby Crash and his band, the Germs.

Where the Wild Things Are: Collector’s Edition (street Aug. 26, prebook July 29; DVD $14.95) celebrates the storytelling and artistry of Maurice Sendak. Gene Zion’s tale of a mutt who runs away before bath time is refreshed in the newly remastered edition of Harry the Dirty Dog … And More Playful Puppy Stories (street Sept. 23, prebook Aug. 26; DVD $14.95). The Night Before Christmas … And More Classic Holiday Tales (street Oct. 28, prebook Sept. 23; DVD $14.95) arrives just in time for the holidays.

I Got the Feelin’: James Brown in the ’60s (street Aug. 5, prebook now; three-disc set $39.98) pays homage to Brown’s contribution to American music and reveals his often overlooked impact on race relations. Starring Felicity Huffman and Peter Krause, Sports Night: The Complete Series (street Sept. 30, prebook Sept. 2; eight-disc set $69.99) reveals the struggles and victories of a witty dream team from a fictional cable sports network. Landing on both DVD and Blu-ray, Warren Miller: Playground (street Oct. 14, prebook Aug. 8) follows the leading skiers of the freeride movement.

Insanitarium stars Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) as a man who gets himself committed into a mental hospital to break out his sister and discovers that a doctor is turning patients into killers (street July 15, prebook now; DVD $24.96). In Prom Night, after surviving a tragedy, Donna (Brittany Snow) has moved on and is looking forward to her prom, but the night turns deadly when a sadistic killer is after her (street Aug. 19, prebook July 17; DVD $29.96, Blu-ray $38.96).
Summit—Palms 30-114
After its win at the MTV Movie Awards for best fight scene and with star Cam Gigandet receiving the Rising Male Star of the Year award at this year’s show, Never Back Down (street July 29, prebook now; DVD $26.99, two-disc special edition $32.99, Blu-ray $34.99) is set to offer a lot of buzz in Vegas.
Timeless—Palms 31-108, 31-110
After its debut on NBC in 1957 and its subsequent three-year run, The Very Best of M-Squad (street Sept. 16, prebook now; 14-disc set $99.98) starring Lee Marvin was one of the better crime dramas of its time. Five Classic TV Westerns from the ’50s and ’60s—Wagon Train, Tales of Wells Fargo, Laramie, Laredo and The Deputy—will each be available as complete series sets on DVD, beginning in the third quarter of 2008, followed by individual season releases.
TLA—Palms 5-105
Philosophy of a Knife (street July 8, prebook now; DVD $19.99) is part documentary, part feature film, based on the true events of the bizarre and atrocious medical experiments that were done in Japanese Unit 731 from the ’30s to its demise in 1945.
Universal—Fantasy 30-201, 30-217, 30-224
Heroes Season 2 (street Aug. 26, prebook July 22; four-disc Blu-ray $99.98) allows viewers to re-experience the twists and suspense-filled moments of the series, including an alternate ending to the season finale and a sneak peek at the making of Season 3. Coming Sept. 30 (prebook Aug. 26) is the Emmy-winning 30 Rock: Season Two, featuring Tina Fey, Alec Baldwin and Tracy Morgan working for a live sketch comedy show. George Clooney tries his hand at wacky romantic comedy in Leatherheads (street Sept. 16, prebook Aug. 5; DVD $29.98), set against the backdrop of America’s nascent pro-football league in 1925. Praised as one of the best comedy films of the summer, Forgetting Sarah Marshall (street Sept. 30, prebook Aug. 19; DVD $29.98) is a comic look at one guy’s quest to grow up and get over the heartbreak of being dumped.

Ben Stein explores the controversy of intelligent design versus evolution in Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, which opened theatrically in April. The Stone Angel stars Ellen Burstyn living an unconventional life that puts her at odds with family and friends. Both arrive Oct. 21 (prebook Sept. 23; DVD $26.99 each). Steve Harvey: Still Trippin’ (street Oct. 28, prebook Sept. 30; DVD $19.99) takes fans back to Harvey’s original entertainment roots.
Well Go USA—Palms 28-112
80 Minutes (street Sept. 16, prebook Aug. 19; DVD $19.98) stars Gabriel Mann as a man who has 80 minutes to live. Perfect Hideout (street Oct. 14, prebook Sept. 16; DVD $19.98), starring Billy Zane, is about a couple who kidnaps a man who is a serial killer. Ghost hunter Carter Simms investigates a house where an infamous family slaying took place in Death of a Ghost Hunter (street July 8, prebook now; DVD $19.98).
