DVD for Dudes

JULY 21 | DVD FOR DUDES: Outspoken director Michael Bay’s Transformers, the top-selling DVD of 2007, will arrive as a fully loaded two-disc Blu-ray presentation on Sept. 2. The many supplements include a commentary by Bay, an extensive trailer gallery, Easter eggs and more than a dozen featurettes, all of which are presented in high-definition (and most of which appeared on last year’s Transformers HD DVD). Also included is an H.U.D. function, which allows viewers to access running text commentary while watching the film and view behind-the-scenes footage and B-roll video in a picture-in-picture window. Transformers also will be the first Paramount title to incorporate BD Live features, which includes an Intelligence Mode, wherein an on-screen “dashboard” provides information on the titular robots, their weapons and more.

A quick perusal of online forums reveals it’s not the extras that high-techies are most excited about, but rather, the disc’s two high-end audio options: 5.1 PCM (uncompressed) and 5.1 Dolby.
