FEB. 10 | Caprica, the long-anticipated follow-up to the successful Battlestar Galactica TV series, will go into orbit on April 21 as a DVD premiere movie.
Caprica is set 50 years earlier than Battlestar Galactica.
A limited edition, unedited and unrated Caprica feature-length extended pilot episode will debut on DVD months before the TV series begins its run on the Sci Fi Channel in 2010.
In issuing the extended pilot on DVD prior to the series' TV debut, Universal Studios Home Entertainment is creating what Hilary Hoffman, senior VP of brand and digital marketing, describes as an “innovative distribution model.”
The DVD will carry a suggested retail price of $26.98. Prebook date is March 3. The movie also will be available as a digital download at select online sites.
Directed by Jeffrey Reiner and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, David Eick and Remi Aubuchon, Caprica is set 50 years before the events of Battlestar Galactica, which wraps its fourth and final season on the Sci Fi Channel on March 20. Caprica stars Eric Stoltz, Esai Morales and Paula Malcomson.
The Caprica DVD will arrive with a full complement of supplements, including a commentary track, deleted scenes, video blogs and featurettes.
