The Strangers

> Moderately entertaining, tissue-thin thriller about thrill killers.
This thriller finds Scott Speedman (Underworld: Evolution) and Liv Tyler (The Incredible Hulk) portraying quarreling lovers who return to their remote cottage late one night and shortly thereafter fall victim to masked tormentors. Their efforts to escape are futile, and they are captured, bound and threatened with a gruesome death by the thrill killers—but that brings the film to its ending. The Strangers is all setup and plays like the first act of a longer story brought to a hasty conclusion because the filmmakers ran out of time and money. Much of the violent climax is perfunctorily staged and photographed.
Shelf Talk: Speedman and Tyler aren’t exactly A-list stars, but The Strangers was a moderate box-office success, and with strong marketing support, the DVD could do well. A good campaign (including the theatrical trailer, which promises a lot more than the movie delivers) is sure to attract interest.
