> Oliver Stone’s study of the JFK assassination glows in high-definition.
The first and finest selection in Oliver Stone’s Presidential trilogy, JFK debuts on high-definition a week after the country’s national election. Politics aside, JFK is undeniably a great-looking, fine-sounding movie, and this Blu-ray edition does it justice—from Oscar-winning cinematographer Robert Richardson’s stunning, textured visuals to John Williams’ ominously pulsing score. Presented in a hardcover book packed with 38 pages of photos, filmographies and notes, this edition includes all the standard-edition supplements from the earlier JFK 2-Disc Special Edition. One major gripe is the absence of the new documentary feature The Kennedys: America’s Emerald Kings, which is included in the new, supplements- and tchotchkes-filled JFK: Ultimate Collector’s Edition DVD.
Shelf Talk: JFK has always been a solid catalog title for political junkies, Kennedy completists and film fans who keep an eye on editing, composition and lighting. The title’s handsome, hardcover package makes it even more appealing to collectors.
