FEB. 19 | Amazon.com is offering one of the most premium-priced Twilight configurations, an exclusive $79.99 Blu-ray Disc collector’s set.
Twilight will be available in multiple configurations before Amazon's exclusive is released.
The Twilight Ultimate Collector's box set, streeting on May 5—a few months after Summit Entertainment's Twilight debuts on DVD and Blu-ray on March 21—features an individually numbered jewelry box, an exclusive watch, a limited edition bracelet, photo cards and a book mark, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
It appears that the Blu-ray disc will hold much of the same bonus features in the earlier Twilight high-definition release, which will be sold exclusively at Best Buy and Target. Shared features among the Blu-ray versions include music videos from Muse, Linkin Park and Paramore, as well as a featurette on Twilight panel at last year's Comic-Con.
Amazon’s Blu-ray also will include a Web-enabled, BD Live sneak peak of the Twilight franchise’s second theatrical installment, New Moon. That extra hasn’t yet been listed for the earlier Blu-ray release.
The Twilight franchiseis a runaway hit, grossing $188 million at the U.S. box office. The book series on which the film is based remains a long-time bestseller.
Some Amazon consumers have posted complaints at the site about what they feel is a high $79.99 retail price. Amazon's release is $50 more than the price Target and Best Buy are charging for their Blu-ray version.
However, Summit is offering consumers plenty of choice in purchasing Twilight, with various versions being sold at different retailers.
As well as the Blu-ray versions at Best Buy and Target, Wal-Mart will exclusively sell the single-DVD Twilight edition, and Borders will have its own exclusive Twilight two-DVD version.
